"It is great for carrying a lot of stuff, and provides plenty of creature comforts for the passengers"
Our family has had a Prius since December, 2001 (we ordered it in June, 2001, having seen what was likely to our country's energy policy under the Bush administration). As soon as we got in and drove
it, it was obvious that this vehicle represented a really huge step in the future of transportation. It was quiet, smooth, and had enough power for all practical purposes. For the first week, I found the engine shut-downs at stoplights disconcerting (I had owned other cars that did that sometimes, but it usually meant pushing it out of the intersection afterwards). After the first week, I found sitting in any other car at stoplights disconcerting (why is it running the engine when it isn't going anywhere?). Also, the lack of any conventional transmission is a delight in hill and mountain driving, since there are no sudden bumps from the car downshifting on a hill. That Prius was damaged in an accident, and replaced this spring with a 2005 model, which you see in the attached pictures. This shows the car hauling a large load of my son's stuff back from college in St. Louis to our home in Nashville, TN, for his summer break (along with my son, Michael). It is great for carrying a lot of stuff, and provides plenty of creature comforts for the passengers. It is even
more elegant than our older model for being smooth and quiet. The all-electric air conditioning system is silent, so even with the engine shut down at a stop light, the car maintains a pleasant interior environment in hot weather. I really think that this is the nicest and most advanced car which has ever been put on the road.
