My wife and I are an enigma in contemporary culture: conservatives with an environmental conscience. We have been interested in alternative fuels and solar technologies for several decades. We were taken with
hybrid autos because they represent the first viable alternative to traditional internal combustion engines.
Last month, my wife's 1999 Explorer was totaled, so we set out to find a Prius. We found a driftwood pearl, package 5 model.
It is a hoot to drive, and not only because of the gas mileage. People do amazing double takes as you glide silently through parking lots, and the keyless entry/ignition (shared with Lexus) blows passengers' minds.
There is amazing rear seat leg room, the ride is quiet and solid, and there is plenty of acceleration to merge comfortably into freeway traffic.
I am convinced! Our next car will be another hybrid!
